MONKEY TAILS
AN OMA GOES BANANAS!!!
As a child, did you play with SOCK MONKEYS? Have you ever made one yourself? Grandmother Emily Hunsberger of OMAS SISKONA of KW made sock monkeys to benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
She produced two children’s books, Monkey Tails and Monkeys from A to Z, and forwarded the sales directly to the SLF.
Having made the monkeys and written the accompanying «tails» and alliterations, Emily created back-drops and props, photographed the scenes, and then had St. Jacobs Printery print the books. Jodi Howey of the Printery, did the graphic design.
Monkey Tails, the first book, was published in 2012. Monkeys from A to Z followed in 2016. As the ideas took shape, each book took at least a year to prepare.
So far, Emily has forwarded over $28,000.00 to the SLF from the sale of both books. Some books were sold by other grandmother groups. As those sales credits have gone to our sister groups, it is difficult to establish the true total sent to the SLF.
Always actively creative, Emily continues to make monkey Christmas and birthday cards for her family. Emily Hunsberger is an exceptional example of what one person can do to benefit many. Congratulations and thank you, Emily!
