A PLACE FOR EVERYONE

On-going teams or working groups in which you can become involved:

PLANNERS (Steering Committee)
The Planners Team includes our Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of OMAS SISKONA
(= Grandmothers together) , members who volunteer to lead other teams and two members-at-large. We meet once monthly September through June to do the planning and visioning that will enable us to fulfill our mission to raise funds and awareness in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. While Planners do the planning, recommendations for fundraising events, speakers, and other events must be approved by our general membership before going forward. An inclusive, equal opportunity approach that works for us.

EDUCATION/COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Involves public speaking, presentations to community groups and churches to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, the SLF and the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

PRODUCERS TEAM
The goal is to encourage the creativity of our members in the production of unique items to be sold at fundraisers. Handmade goods are sold at some of our meetings, at the marketplace of our “Scrabble and More Benefit for Africa” and at other special events like the ORRG (Ontario Regional Resource Group) conference. Occasionally, the team will hold a workshop to create a specific item and welcome everyone to join for work, fun and fellowship. Producers recognize and support fellow grandmothers in Sub-Saharan Africa. New ideas are always welcome!

SCHOOL INITIATIVE - ON HOLD
With the materials and resources from the Stephen Lewis Foundation, OMAS SISKONA will make school presentations to inform and educate youth about the work of SLF and particularly about the plight of children in Sub-Saharan Africa orphaned by AIDS.
